End of the road: Untaxed Citroën in Ketley meets its fate in the crusher
A Citroën left untaxed and illegally parked in Ketley has been seized by Telford & Wrekin Council as part of its ongoing campaign to tackle nuisance vehicles across the borough.
The vehicle was removed and taken to the impound lot and crushed after 14 days as the owner did not reclaim it. This action is part of the council’s year-round crackdown on untaxed and abandoned vehicles, ensuring streets remain cleaner, safer, and free from hazards.
Since councils were granted powers in 2023 to remove vehicles without valid tax or those declared SORN but left on public roads, Telford & Wrekin has acted decisively. Vehicles left untaxed for more than two months or abandoned on highways and open land are targeted regularly, with unclaimed vehicles disposed of through crushing or auction and subject to a £200 fine.
Councillor Richard Overton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing and Enforcement, said: “We will not tolerate untaxed or abandoned vehicles cluttering our streets. These operations send a clear message: if you dump a car in Telford & Wrekin, it won’t be there for long.”
Residents are encouraged to report abandoned vehicles, fly-tipping, or vandalism anonymously through Telford & Wrekin Watch. Every report helps keep the borough safe and clean.
This crackdown is part of a wider commitment to make Telford cleaner, greener, and safer, not just by removing nuisance vehicles, but also by tackling fly-tipping, littering, and dog fouling. Residents play a key role in this effort. If you spot an abandoned car, witness fly-tipping, or see vandalism, report it anonymously through Telford & Wrekin Watch. Every report counts.
Abandoned cars aren’t just an eyesore – they’re a danger. This crackdown is about protecting communities, keeping roads safe, and stopping dumped vehicles from blighting our borough.
