Empowering co-production at heart of Adult Social Care conference
Telford & Wrekin Council proudly hosted its second annual Co-Production Conference on Wednesday 9 July 2025, a gathering that united community members, experts with lived experience, and professionals to advance co-production for adult social care within the Borough.
This unique platform underscored the Council’s commitment to shaping services that truly meet the needs of its residents through collaborative innovation.
The conference featured a packed agenda, highlighting the latest innovations in co-production and showcasing successful examples from across the community. Attendees were inspired by guest speakers who emphasised the transformative power of including the voices of those with lived experience in developing effective and responsive services.
People with lived experience of different services across adult social care were also invited to attend. They were able to share insights, and offer contributions towards the future of information, advice and guidance.
Anthony Woods, a resident with lived experience commented:
“Being able to attend the Co-Production Conference is a real privilege. It’s a great way to share my opinions and hear those of other people too. It’s all about collaboration and, having contributed to the discussion on recruitment today, I’m hopeful that we’ll see really positive changes over the next year.”
Councillor Kelly Middleton, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Healthier Communities, expressed her enthusiasm for the event:
“Co-production is a way of life that empowers our residents and ensures that their needs and aspirations are at the heart of everything we do.
“This conference shows the immense value of listening to and learning from each other, as we work together to create services that really work for our community.
“The insights shared today will shape the path forward for adult social care in Telford and Wrekin. By actively engaging with those who use our services, we are not only enhancing the quality of care but also fostering a sense of ownership and community pride.”
A highlight of the event was the marketplace, which provided a vibrant networking opportunity during lunch. Here, attendees had the chance to engage with local organisations and learn about the diverse services available in the community.
Lydia Bone, Co-production Lead at Disability Rights UK, shared her perspective:
“Participating in the conference and marketplace was a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow community members and showcase the work we are doing.
“As a national organisation we are thrilled to be working in the Telford and Wrekin area, collaborating with Energize Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin to support Disabled people and those living with a long-term health condition to be more physically active.”
Co-production and incorporating lived experience are essential to our work, and as one of the speakers on the day said, co-production isn’t just a method - it’s a mindset. Events like this reinforce the importance of working together to make a real difference.
The Council extends its gratitude to all participants, speakers, and marketplace vendors for their contributions to this successful event; and remains dedicated to fostering a culture of co-production, ensuring that all voices are heard and valued in the pursuit of innovative and effective community solutions.
