Ditch the paper and go digital

Households and businesses across Telford and Wrekin are being encouraged to go digital and sign up for electronic council tax and business rates billing, before next year’s bills are issued in March.

Sign up for electronic billing

Each year, the council issues around 85,000 council tax bills and over 5,400 business rates bills. Currently, around 40% of households and 48% of businesses in Telford and Wrekin receive their bills electronically, this means around 50,000 paper bills are still being sent out. Switching to electronic billing helps reduce printing and postage costs and supports the council’s carbon reduction and climate action commitments.

Electronic billing is free, secure and easy to access. No account is needed, a quick registration takes a moment, and bills will be sent as email attachments, with all future bills delivered electronically. Paper copies can still be printed at home if needed.

Councillor Zona Hannington, Cabinet Member for Finance, Governance and Customer Service, said:

“By signing up to electronic billing, residents and businesses will be able to quickly and easily access their bill and keep their details up to date, while also helping us cut down on the amount of paper we use each year. If we sent paper bills to every household in Telford and Wrekin, we would be sending out over 170kg of paper, so every home and business that signs up for eBilling helps reduce that impact.

“eBilling also helps us reduce what we spend on printing and posting information, meaning more of that money can be better spent supporting vulnerable people in our community.

“Switching to eBilling is very easy, and online billing is free, safe and secure. If you sign up to pay by direct debit at the same time, you can be sure that your council tax bills are being paid on time, automatically, it’s a small change that makes a meaningful difference.”

Any household or business in the Borough can sign up for eBilling before the next round of annual council tax and business rates bills are issued in March. To ensure you receive your 2026/27 annual bill, applications must be received by 22 February 2026, however you can request eBilling at any time.
