The Let’s Dine Team recently achieved the bronze standard award catering mark, awarded by the Soil Association Food for Life, this is a great achievement for the team who work hard to maintain food standards in school meals, a standard they have maintained for the last five years, the team freshly prepare meals daily for pupils across Telford and Wrekin.

Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment & Skills said “Congratulations to the Let’s Dine Team on achieving the bronze award again this year.  The Eat Well Team work closely with the schools to design a menu to suit individual school’s needs and involve the pupils or school councils when creating nutritious menus. This gives the pupils a greater choice of what appears on their plate but also goes through with them why healthy choices matter. A hot nutritious meal during the day at school aids a pupil’s learning and they are then more likely to be focused. It also teaches them important social skills.”

The Let’s Dine Team are committed to working in partnership with our schools to provide a healthy and nutritionally-balanced meal in an enjoyable lunch time experience for all, ensuring the menus are in line with government food standards but also meet all dietary and cultural needs.

Achieving the Bronze Award is recognition that the menus across the schools that Let’s Dine cater for comply with various stipulations and criteria that an inspection acknowledged. The criteria the team met to achieve the award included specifics such as; the team are freshly preparing and cooking 75% of the menu from unprocessed ingredients, use locally sourced fruit and vegetables (where possible) from Shrewsbury, the team use free range eggs (from free range hens) laid in Clun, all meat is Red Tractor accredited and satisfies UK animal welfare standards, free drinking water is prominently available and menus are seasonal and in-season produce is highlighted.
