Council prepared to support Ricoh staff if redundancies are confirmed
Telford & Wrekin Council has responded to news that Ricoh is consulting on major changes to its Telford operations, with the majority of production proposed to move to France.
While no final decisions have yet been made, the Council is preparing support for employees who may be affected if redundancies are confirmed in due course.
Through the Council‑led Skills for Growth Partnership, specialist advisers are ready to work with Ricoh and any other employers entering redundancy processes.
This support can be offered onsite or remotely and includes access to retraining opportunities, skills assessments, and links to local employers currently recruiting.
Businesses consulting on potential redundancies, or employers looking to hire, can contact the Skills for Growth team via: skillsforgrowth@telford.gov.uk
Residents seeking new employment, whether now or in the future, can also access free, personalised employment support through Telford Job Box.
The service provides help with CVs, applications, interview preparation and access to job opportunities across the borough. Job Box operates as a drop‑in at Southwater One, Monday to Friday, 10am–5pm, or via 01952 382888.
Local training providers are similarly prepared to support staff to retrain or upskill should they require it.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Children & Young People, Learning, Employment and Skills, said:
“We understand how incredibly difficult and unsettling this consultation period will be for Ricoh employees and their families.
“If redundancies are confirmed, we want people to know that support will be available immediately.
“Whether it’s exploring new training, updating a CV, or connecting with employers who are recruiting, our teams stand ready to provide one to one support to help residents plan their next steps with confidence.”
