Telford & Wrekin Council has recently improved a number of areas on its website to make it easier for residents and visitors to the borough to find information and engage with the Local Authority.

Sections of the website including the Welcome page, which is aimed at residents who have newly moved into the borough, along with the Council’s ‘Affordable Warmth’ pages, have been redesigned to make them more user friendly.

The Affordable Warmth pages were created to help residents find support with fuel bills while also signposting to general energy saving advice. Recent upgrades to the web pages have improved the user experience so that all the support options are more clearly displayed, and a new single form has been added which residents can complete to find out if they qualify for local or national energy support grants. These improvements will continue over the winter months as the Council looks to provide information and updates regarding energy support to residents in as clear a format as possible.

The Council’s Welcome web pages have also been improved with new content, new imagery and a new layout, with the range of services displayed being driven by statistics on what information new residents want to see. The pages have also been enhanced for accessibility, for example using a colour palette that is optimised for people who have visual impairments. The pages are a handy guide for new residents on everything from bin collections to finding local wellbeing support and links to help new families settle into the borough.

The Council has also introduced new software to its systems so that teams can get greater insight into what site users want to see, enabling the authority to react quickly to demand and make further improvements to the site.

This ongoing work is part of Telford & Wrekin Council’s 20 Pledges campaign, in which the local authority committed to delivering action on 20 things that are most important to residents within the first 20 weeks of Cllr Lee Carter taking office as Leader.
