National Volunteers Week 2025 thank you to all our volunteers

This annual event is a time to recognise and thank the thousands of individuals who give their time, energy, and compassion to make Telford and Wrekin a better place to live. From supporting local charities and caring for the environment, to mentoring young people and helping at community events, volunteers are the backbone of our vibrant and resilient community.

In Telford and Wrekin over 2,800 volunteers support Council services, with initiatives such as Pride in Your Community and Street Champions seeing hundreds of residents take part in improving their neighbourhoods and many more volunteers actively support other local projects, community groups and charities around the borough too.

The Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, Cllr Lee Carter, said:

“National Volunteers’ Week is a chance to shine a light on the selfless individuals who quietly go above and beyond every day.

“Around our borough, thousands of people give their time, energy, and compassion to support others—whether it’s through community clean-ups, youth mentoring, helping in libraries, or supporting our most vulnerable residents.

“Their efforts not only support vital services but also foster a sense of belonging and pride in our borough. Volunteers are a true reflection of community spirit, and we are deeply grateful for everything they do.”

Councillor Paul Davis, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Civic Pride, added:

“Volunteering is one of the most powerful ways we can build stronger, more connected communities. It’s not just about giving time—it’s about giving hope, building friendships, and creating a sense of belonging.

“Whether you’re helping out once a week or once a year, your contribution matters. And if you’ve ever thought about getting involved, now is the perfect time. There are so many ways to make a difference, so have a look at the Volunteer Telford website to find out more.”

Jeni Kuczynska, Chief Executive at Telford and Wrekin CVS, a leading local charity that, with the support of volunteers, works to connect and inspire people to improve lives in the borough, said:

“Without doubt volunteering is fulfilling and purposeful. Volunteers, communities and services within our Borough benefit from the expertise and time dedicated by volunteers.

“Fortunately, traditional and unique volunteering opportunities are vast and available, often in roles which have been overlooked. At Telford and Wrekin CVS we are proud to have invited volunteer Experts by Experience on interview panels, have skilled volunteer Trustees to support the direction of our charity and benefit from local people with a range of skill sets volunteering and adding value to our services.

“Telford and Wrekin CVS share great thanks to all of our volunteers here in Telford and Wrekin.”

Throughout the week, the Council has been sharing inspiring stories from local volunteers on its website and social media.

Volunteering is open to everyone and can be as flexible as needed—whether it’s an hour a week or a one-off event. It’s a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, and make a meaningful impact.
