Celebrating inclusive sport in Telford and Wrekin
Telford & Wrekin Council is proud to champion inclusive sport and celebrate the achievements of Team Carter, the inclusive skating team who train at Telford Ice Rink.
Inclusive skating provides opportunities for people of all abilities, including those with additional needs, to take part in competitive sport and thrive. Team Carter’s success at the Inclusive Skating World Championships in December is a powerful example of what can be achieved when sport is accessible to everyone.
Despite a smaller squad competing this year, Team Carter delivered an outstanding performance on the world stage, securing 39 gold medals and 1 bronze across 40 events. The championships brought together skaters from across the globe, with Team Carter’s athletes demonstrating skill, determination and progress.
Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism, Culture and the Arts, said: “We are incredibly proud of Team Carter and their phenomenal success on the world stage. This achievement highlights the importance of inclusive sport and the opportunities available here in Telford and Wrekin. Our Ice Rink is more than just a venue, it’s a place where people of all abilities can thrive, build confidence and achieve their dreams.”
Team Carter, Head coach Sarah Carter said: “These results are incredible, particularly given the size of the team competing this year. What matters most to us is not just the medals, but the confidence, independence and belief each skater has developed along the way. I’m immensely proud of every single athlete and the families who support them.”
The team’s success was officially recognised at a medal presentation ceremony at Telford Ice Rink on Sunday 11 January 2026, celebrating both their achievements and the inclusive values at the heart of the programme.
Looking ahead, Team Carter is preparing for a busy competitive year, including the British Adult Championships in February and a return to the Inclusive Skating World Championships later in 2026.
