A fly-tip consisting of broken furniture and cardboard packaging filled with general waste was discovered by an enforcement officer on Lion Street, Oakengates.

During the investigation, officers identified evidence within the waste linking it to flats on Oxford Street, Oakengates. CCTV footage was also obtained, supporting the fly-tipping offence.

An interview under caution letter was issued after which the individual accepted responsibility for the waste, stating they believed this was the correct disposal method.

Following the investigation, a £650 Fixed Penalty Notice was issued for the offence, which has now been paid in full.

Councillor Richard Overton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing and Enforcement said: “There is no excuse for fly‑tipping. Residents have a legal responsibility to dispose of their waste correctly, and ignorance is not a defence.

“This case highlights how seriously we take environmental crime. We will investigate, use available evidence, including CCTV, and act where offences occur.

“Fly‑tipping harms our communities and environment, and we will continue to hold those responsible accountable.”

Residents are reminded that there are legal and convenient ways to dispose of waste:

  • Use your household waste and recycling collections as scheduled.
  • Take larger items or excess waste to the Council’s Household Recycling Centres at Hortonwood and Halesfield, open daily 9am–5pm (except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day).
  • Arrange a bulky waste collection through the Council if you have large household items to dispose of.
  • Report fly‑tipping confidentially online at www.telford.gov.uk/flytipping or by calling 01952 388 800.

This case reflects Telford & Wrekin Council’s zero-tolerance approach to environmental crime and its ongoing commitment to keeping the borough clean, safe and welcoming for all residents.
