Central to the Charter’s relaunch is a genuine call to action. Whether you are a resident, a carer, someone who directly accesses adult social care services, or a community organisation, Telford & Wrekin Council wants to hear from you. Adult Social Care is committed to capturing people’s experiences of the service as part of its quality assurance work. If you have recently received support from Adult Social Care and would like to share your experience - good or otherwise - your feedback will directly inform how services improve.

Sarah Roberts, Co-Chair of the Making It Real Board and expert with lived experience said: “In essence, the charter defines what people should expect from Adult Social Care and challenges professionals to consistently meet those expectations. It represents a commitment to dignity, fairness, and respect for people who rely on care and support services.

"The charter sets out a shared understanding between professionals, and individuals about what good practice should look like. It’s a statement of values that places people rather than systems at the heart, emphasises that people should be active in the decisions made about their own lives. This also means being informed about options, having a say in how support is delivered, and being empowered to make choices that reflect personal values and lifestyles.

"Good relationships with professionals are built on trust, continuity, and communication, it helps shape an environment that not only provides a service but respects and values the people who use it.”

Clare Hall-Salter, Director for Adult Social Care said: “This Charter belongs to the people of Telford and Wrekin and is an essential standard that we have committed to.

"It was built with those who access our services, and it will continue to be shaped by them. Our commitment to co-production is at the very core of how we work. We want residents, carers, and communities to know that their voices genuinely drive what we do. Nothing for you, without you.”

The relaunch reflects the Council’s broader commitment to strengths-based, person-centred practice. Every conversation and every visit is guided by what is important to you and your family.

Telford & Wrekin Adult Social Care has been independently assessed as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission Local Authority inspection as well as its in-house My Options service holds an ‘Outstanding’ rating from the Care Quality Commission. The charter relaunch builds on this foundation, aiming to set an even higher standard for collaborative and community-led care.

Cllr Paul Watling, Cabinet Member for Adult Care and Independent Living commented: “As a Council, we believe that the best services are built with people, not just for them.

"The Adult Social Care Charter is a powerful way of doing this. I would encourage every resident, carer, and community group in Telford and Wrekin to get involved, visit the Independent Living Centre, view our Virtual House or simply share their experience of care.

"Every voice matters, and every contribution helps us build a Borough where people can live the lives they choose.”
