Better roads, better journeys: Council delivers major upgrades
As 2025 comes to an end, Telford & Wrekin Council celebrates major improvements to the borough’s highways and transport network.
From resurfacing key junctions like the Greyhound Roundabout, the ongoing project in Halesfield to upgrading cycleways and pedestrian routes, these projects have strengthened road safety, improved accessibility, and supported sustainable travel.
A series of projects have been successfully completed, aimed at enhancing road safety, expanding active travel options, and supporting sustainable growth across the area, amounting to almost £18 million.
From the major resurfacing works at key junctions to improvements in cycleways and pedestrian pathways, the Council’s efforts have been focused on creating a safer, more accessible borough.
These initiatives underline the council’s ongoing commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and more connected Telford and Wrekin for residents and visitors alike.
Councillor Richard Overton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing and Enforcement, said: “2025 has been another successful year for our infrastructure improvements across Telford and Wrekin.
“The successful completion of key projects like the Greyhound Roundabout resurfacing demonstrates our commitment to delivering tangible benefits for our residents and motorists.
“Telford & Wrekin Council has achieved a 23 per cent reduction in pothole reports, reflecting the success of our proactive maintenance strategy. This year, we repaired 1,872 potholes, ensuring safer journeys for residents. Fewer reports mean fewer potholes overall - proof that our investment in prevention and timely repairs is paying off.”
“These upgrades, achieved through a coordinated approach, reflect our dedication to making Telford safer, greener, and more connected.
“We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished this year and look forward to building on this momentum in the years ahead.”
The council remains committed to investing in infrastructure, with these projects representing just a portion of ongoing efforts to improve the borough’s transportation network.
The council added that this approach contributes to accolades like being one of the top eight local authorities for reducing potholes over the last four years and at the same time, achieving top rankings for several years including 2025 in the National Highways and Transport (NHT) survey.
Further schemes in the coming year include a new pedestrian crossing on Finger Road in Dawley, supporting Bourneville Village Trust with road resurfacing and adoption in Lightmoor, improvements to Wellington pedestrian area, Coalmoor Road retaining wall repairs near Little Wenlock and the Wrekin, and major infrastructure projects in Wellington including Apley roundabout and Haybridge Roundabout.
