Application open for the 2026 Young Person Grant
Young people in Telford and Wrekin can now apply for up to £500 to help take their next step in education, employment or training, as the Leader and Cabinet Members’ Young Person Grant returns for 2026.
The grant is open to young people aged 15-25 who live in Telford and Wrekin, or those who are care leavers living outside the Borough.
Applications should explain how the funding would support their goals. This could include buying equipment for a course, covering travel costs, supporting access to training, or helping to start a small business.
The Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, Councillor Lee Carter, said:
“The Young Person’s Grant has already helped many young people take positive steps in education, training and employment, and I’m pleased to see it return for 2026.
“We want every young person in Telford and Wrekin to feel supported and able to move forward with their goals”.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment and Skills, said:
“Every year, we hear from young people who know what they want to do next but ned some practical support to get there.
“This grant helps remove barriers, such as the cost of travel, equipment, or anything else, making it easier for young people to take their next step.
“We know that a relatively small amount of funding can make an enormous impact when it’s used in the right way. I would encourage any young person who thinks this grant could help them to take the time to apply.
"What makes this grant so special is that it’s not just about money - it’s about listening. Listening to what our young people need, and responding with real, practical support.”
Since the grant began, hundreds of young people have been supported, with previous funding helping learners with course fees, laptops, transport to training, tools for apprenticeships and start-up costs for new business ideas.
Applications for the 2026 scheme are open until Friday 20 March at 5pm.
A panel will assess all submissions, and successful applicants will be notified by June 2026.
The Young Person Grant supports the Council’s wider youth offer, which focuses on creating opportunities for young people across the Borough, including activities linked to health and wellbeing, education, employment, arts and culture.
