All-new Move to Thrive sessions launch in Oakengates
A new programme designed to support physical and mental wellbeing is launching in Oakengates, offering fun, accessible movement sessions for older people and those living with Parkinson’s disease or dementia, along with their carers.
The all-new Move to Thrive sessions build on the legacy of the Move to Thrive project, which provided popular activities in the community for those with dementia and their families. These new sessions will run twice weekly at Oakengates Rest Rooms, Charlton Street, providing engaging opportunities to stay active, socialise, and boost overall wellbeing for mind and body stimulation and now also for those with Parkinson disease.
You can choose from sessions on Tuesdays or Thursday each week.
On Tuesdays, participants can enjoy Move to Thrive with Kiddleydivey, a lively and uplifting session featuring singing, movement and laughter. The sessions run from 10.45am to 12noon and are designed to stimulate both body and mind, while offering valuable social time.
On Thursdays, Move to Thrive brings you Love to Move, delivering fun and engaging movement-to-music sessions. These take place from 1.30pm to 2.45pm, creating another welcoming space for participants to connect and stay active.
All sessions take place at Oakengates Rest Rooms, Charlton Street, Oakengates, TF2 6BS, and cost £5 per person, which includes social time and refreshments.
Support is also available for those who may need assistance attending. Trained support workers can help individuals or carers access the sessions, particularly in the early stages.
Councillor Kelly Middleton, Cabinet Member for Public Health & Unlocking Opportunities for All Said “Regular movement combined with social interaction plays a crucial role in maintaining both physical and cognitive health, particularly for older adults and those living with conditions such as Parkinson’s or dementia. Programmes like Move to Thrive provide a supportive and enjoyable environment that can help improve mood, mobility and overall quality of life.”
