At the same time, Telford & Wrekin Council is continuing to invest in flood prevention and resilience, with £750,000 of flood mitigation schemes being delivered across the Borough to help protect homes, reduce the impact of severe weather and support local communities.

A number of projects are already underway or being developed, including sustainable drainage measures, flood storage and community resilience initiatives designed to reduce flood risk and better manage surface water during periods of heavy rainfall. The Council is also working with residents and partners to help communities become more prepared and resilient when flooding does occur.

Councillor Nathan England, Cabinet Member for Safer Streets and Better Housing, said: “Flood Action Week is an important reminder that flooding can happen at any time of year, and that we all have a role to play in being prepared.

“We know the impact flooding can have on residents, families and businesses, which is why we are investing £750,000 in flood mitigation schemes across the Borough. These projects are designed to make homes safer, strengthen community resilience and reduce the risk of flooding in areas that are vulnerable to severe weather.

“While no authority can completely eliminate flood risk, we are taking proactive steps to protect communities and ensure we are as prepared as possible for the challenges that winter weather can bring.”

Among the projects being progressed are measures to improve local flood resilience, including schemes that slow and manage surface water, investigate long-term solutions to known flooding hotspots and provide communities with practical resources during flood events. This includes improvements already delivered at Horsehay Golf Club as well as work underway at Whitchurch Drive underpass and The Larches in Newport, alongside flood boxes, natural drainage solutions and wider flood mitigation work across the Borough.

Residents are also encouraged to check their flood risk, sign up for flood warnings and make a personal flood plan ahead of winter.
