A442 to undergo clean-up

The work focuses on the central reservation and verges on one of the Borough’s busiest routes. Traffic management, including rolling lane closures, is in place to ensure idverde crews can work safely while keeping disruption to motorists to a minimum. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys where needed.

Councillor Carolyn Healy, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Planning and Sustainability, said:

“Our crews are working hard to keep our Borough clean and tidy. We have increased the number of times the A442 is cleansed due to the amount of litter that accumulates.”

“As always, we aim to keep disruption to motorists to a minimum and are grateful to motorists for their patience while clean-up takes place.”

Councillor Richard Overton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing and Enforcement, added:

“Littering is a criminal offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, and our enforcement officers continue to act robustly on cases reported to us.

“Anyone seen throwing litter from a vehicle risks receiving a fixed penalty notice of £150, even if they were not the driver at the time.”

Residents and motorists are advised to plan journeys accordingly while rolling lane closures are in operation.

If you have witnessed a driver throwing litter from their vehicle and if it is safe to do so, please note the driver registration plate, vehicle make/model and if possible, a description of the driver and email recyclefortelford@telford.gov.uk or you can also leave a confidential message on 01952 388800.
