126 Electric vehicle (EV) chargers now live across Telford and Wrekin
Telford & Wrekin Council has completed the installation of 126 electric vehicle (EV) chargers across 21 council car parks, improving access to public charging for residents and visitors.
Delivered in partnership with charge point operator Believ, the programme supports the council’s work to reduce emissions, improve local air quality and provide better access to EV charging across the borough.
EV chargers are now available at locations across Telford and Wrekin, including Wrekin Road car park where 10 chargers have been installed. The network includes a mix of Standard Plus chargers for longer stays and overnight charging, alongside Rapid chargers for shorter visits such as shopping, dining and leisure trips.
A total of around 200 EV chargers are being delivered through the programme. Of these,140 have been funded through the Government’s On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS), with a further 76 fully funded by Believ. The company will install, operate and maintain the EV chargers on behalf of the council.
The expanded network strengthens access to EV charging in Wellington, Dawley, Oakengates, Hadley, Ironbridge and Newport, while also supporting visitors travelling to destinations such as Ironbridge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Councillor Ollie Vickers, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Transport and Digital Connectivity, said:
“These new EV chargers are a clear sign of our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and investing in modern infrastructure across the borough. More people are choosing low‑emission vehicles and it is important that our car parks keep pace. By providing convenient and reliable charging in the places people already use, we are making it easier for residents and visitors to go about their daily lives while helping to improve local air quality.”
Councillor Carolyn Healy, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Planning and Sustainability, said:
“This is an important milestone in our work to cut emissions and support more sustainable travel.
“These new charge points add to that progress by supporting cleaner travel options and making good use of our existing car parks. Working with Believ and using Government ORCS funding has enabled us to expand EV charging across the borough, giving residents a cleaner, greener borough for everyone who lives and works here”.
Guy Bartlett, Chief Executive Officer of Believ, said:
“We are delighted to have worked with Telford & Wrekin Council to deliver this extensive EV charging network and help support the borough’s ambitions for cleaner transport and improved air quality. By providing a mix of charging options in convenient locations, we are making EV charging more accessible for residents, businesses and visitors across the borough.”
