A high street business in Wellington has received grant funding to help it expand and become more sustainable.

Bath Bombs by JC benefits from high street business grants

Bath Bombs by JC, which sells gorgeous scented bath bombs, shower products, wax melts, home fragrances, handmade soaps, electric burners and more, had outgrown its shop on Crown Street and has now opened in bigger premises on Bell Street in the town.

The expansion was supported by Telford & Wrekin Council’s Pride in Our High Street programme.

Through the programme, Bath Bombs received grant funding to help update and improve its shop frontage as well as to invest in a new range of products and reach out to existing and new customers.

The business is also benefiting from an eco grant which is helping to lower energy costs and reduce its carbon footprint which will help the business to be sustainable.

The eco grant was used to purchase new tubular lighting, sensor ceiling lights, weatherstrips, door storm strips and energy-efficient radiators which all aim to keep costs down and make the business more eco-friendly.

Owners Josh Carter and Nick Hillyard, who have run the business in Wellington for four and a half years, are delighted with the grant funding which has given them the opportunity to expand and take the business forward.

Josh said: “Without grant funding, moving into a bigger premises may not have been possible so we’re really grateful to the Council’s Pride in Our High Street programme.

“The grant has given us the opportunity to increase our product range and take on more stock now we’re in a bigger unit and it has also helped us to install a swinging sign outside our shop which is great advertising for us, particularly as we’re based in a side street.

“The eco grant is also helping us to reduce our costs. The radiators are much more efficient than the old ones, and you can certainly tell the difference in terms of a reduction in heating costs, while the sensored lighting means lights turn on and off automatically which is also keeping our business costs down.

“The extra financial support provided by the programme can make a big difference particularly to small businesses like ours.”

Bath Bombs by JC is open from 9am-5pm on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 9am-2pm on Monday and Wednesday.

Telford & Wrekin Council’s eco grant of up to £500 supports energy saving and environmentally-friendly initiatives and encourages high street businesses to adopt a greener approach.

Katherine Kynaston, Telford & Wrekin Council’s director for housing, employment & infrastructure, said: “We are pleased to support Bath Bombs by JC with grant funding to help the business to grow.

“As well as the diversification and façade grants, the eco grant is giving Bath Bombs by JC the opportunity to reduce its energy costs and implement a more sustainable approach to running the business.

“Grants are available to high street businesses in our borough towns, subject to eligibility, and aim to provide a real boost for individual businesses and encourage people to support their local high street and shop local.”
