Local people are encouraged to join local litter picks in Telford & Wrekin

Telford & Wrekin Council is proud to announce its participation in Keep Britain Tidy's annual Great British Spring Clean and are calling on others to lend a hand too.

Local people are encouraged to join local litter picks in Telford & Wrekin

The campaign, which runs from 17 March to 2 April, encourages communities to come together and keep their streets, parks, and public spaces clean and tidy.

It aims to inspire and educate people to take action to reduce litter, protect wildlife, and improve the local environment.

Telford & Wrekin Council is offering resources to groups setting up litter picks and calling residents to show pride in their area by pledging to pick up litter on Keep Britain Tidy's website.

Councillors, council staff, Street Champions, Climate Change Champions, Community Action Teams, community groups, individuals and businesses are all rolling up their sleeves and taking part.

Cllr Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for neighbourhood, commercial services and regeneration, said:

"We are delighted to be part of the Great British Spring Clean and work with our residents to keep Telford & Wrekin clean and green.

"It will be great to see everyone coming together again this year to help care for our borough.

"Taking part and joining a local event will make a difference to the environment, over and above the work of the council's environmental teams.

"After the 2022 campaign, Keep Britain Tidy said that 90% of people who took part felt more pride for their local area.”

Several local litter picks have been planned by volunteers in various locations on 25 March.

•Coalbrookdale, 25 March 10.30am
•Coalport, 25 March 10.30am
•Lawley Bank, 25 March 10.30am
•Oakengates, 25 March 10.00am

Anyone wanting to lend a hand on 25 March should register interest in advance by emailing: pride.officer@telford.gov.uk.
