Do you want to help improve and develop local adult social care services? Join the “Making It Real Board”!

Telford & Wrekin Council is encouraging adult residents who use adult social care services or their family members or carers to join the “Making It Real Board” as “Experts by Experience”.

As a member of the “Making It Real Board”, people have the opportunity to come together with council leaders, to discuss their experiences and views on adult social care and to play an important part in further improving and developing services in the borough.

Since 2018, the “Making It Real Board” ensures that adult residents who use adult social care services are listened to and actively engaged in co-producing the services that impact them.

Councillor Andy Burford (Lab), Cabinet Member for “Adult social care and health, integration and transformation” said:

“The “Making It Real Board” is a very important body for us, as it involves residents who receive social care services in designing the services they need and in deciding how to deliver these services. The outcome is better social care services in our borough for everyone who needs them.

“We really want to hear your experience of local social care services – get in touch with us at makingitreal@telford.gov.uk

“You can just give your views or you can come to the “Making It Real Board” meetings, if you can or wish to. We can always find ways of facilitating people to get involved with the “Making It Real Board”, without necessarily attending meetings. “

David joined the “Making It Real Board” in 2022 and is now Co-Chair of the Board. He said:

"I joined the Making it Real Board in the hope that by sharing my experiences, I could help shape the way social care is provided to the local people who need to draw on it.

“We are a friendly bunch, passionate about making a change in social care services in Telford and Wrekin. We meet monthly and we talk about issues affecting people who use social care services.

“If you join the “Making It Real Board”, you will have a chance to put your stamp on the social care services people in our community get.”

Sarah is one of the members of “Making It Real Board”. Talking about what the Board does and why people should join it, Sarah said:

“Making It Real Board looks at how things really are in adult social care and tries to improve these things in the future for people in Telford and Wrekin.

“We’ve already done a lot of work with direct payments, looking at how the process works - what works, what doesn’t, so as to make easier for people to access direct payments, should they need to.

“I would encourage anyone eligible to join the “Making It Real Board”. You get to see how things in social care work throughout and it is rewarding to know you can make a difference”.
