Do you have a Learning Disability or Autism? Come to the “Health and Wellness Fair” on 15 February!
A “Health and Wellness Fair” takes place on Wednesday, 15 February at Telford & Wrekin Council for Voluntary Service (CVS), to enable adults with a learning disability and adults with autism to access, in one place, a range of local community support available to them.
The event is one of the actions part of the borough-wide “Live Well with a Learning Disability” strategy and “Autism Strategy” (draft version) jointly developed by the Council, local partners and people with lived experience to help make life better for adults with a learning and adults with autism, their families and carers.
Adults with a learning disability and adults with autism, their families and carers can drop by anytime on Wednesday, 15 February, between 10am and 2pm at Telford & Wrekin CVS for information and advice on accessing health care support, including Annual Health Checks.
They can visit the stands of local providers (such as Telford Leisure Services, Community Healthcare, Healthy Lifestyle Advisors, Ramblers Wellbeing Walks and many others) for a friendly chat on how they can boost their physical and mental wellbeing.
On the day, free half hour sessions of fitness, yoga and dance are also on offer.
People attending the ““Health and Wellness Fair” can also meet the team from the Independent Living Centre and take a tour of the centre (in close proximity of Telford & Wrekin CVS), should they wish to. In doing so, they can learn more about the local care, support and gadgets available to enhance their independence at home and in the community.
Councillor Andy Burford (Labour), Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult social care and health, integration and transformation said:
“We are delighted to be well progressed in implementing, together with our local partners and residents with a lived experience, the borough-wide “Live Well with a Learning Disability” strategy and in developing the “Telford & Wrekin” Autism Strategy.
“These strategies are not just on paper - they bring real life benefits for adult residents with a learning disability and residents with autism, their families and carers. We are on their side, we want them to live well and enjoy a healthy, happy life in our borough.
“Together with Telford & Wrekin CVS, we are organising a “Health and Wellbeing Fair” on 15 February as a one-stop shop to facilitate easier access to health and wellbeing support for adults with learning disability and adults with autism, their families and carers.
“They can just come to one place, at Telford & Wrekin CVS and meet local organisations who provide health care support – saves them time, travel costs and the effort of finding the information themselves.
“So if you are over 18 and have a learning disability or autism or care for an adult who does, make sure you drop by on 15 February, at Telford & Wrekin CVS, between 10am and 2pm. Please help us share this event so many eligible residents benefit from it.
“If you can’t make it on the day, please contact Telford & Wrekin CVS who can provide you with the information and guidance needed. They also run a range of “Café Aspire” drop-in sessions across the borough for adults with a learning disability as well as autism support sessions at their centre - more information is available on www.telfordandwrekincvs.org.uk “
Debbie Gibbon, CEO at Telford and Wrekin CVS said: “We are really excited to work together with Telford & Wrekin Council and a range of partners to continue our series of free events for adults with a learning disability and adults with autism, their families and carers.
