A summer of fun thanks to Safer & Stronger Communities project

Davina King of Malinslee, entered a prize draw at the Malinslee Big Picnic in August – a completely free council-run community event.

A summer of fun thanks to Safer & Stronger Communities project

The draw, organised by the Safer & Stronger Communities project, helped Davina who lives with her four children, create some long lasting memories during the summer holidays thanks to a hamper of goodies.

Davina said: “Trying to entertain four children over the summer is so difficult so I am always in parks or outdoors walking and doing free things wherever I can. This hamper was such a help and meant that all of us could go to the seaside together for the first time on my own.

“The project wasn’t something I knew about previously but I know now where I can go if I want to see improvements in where I live. I would have spoken to the team about CCTV around the shops in Malinslee but it has already been installed, and the improvements to the park were also positive.

“I generally feel safe and happy where I live but I’m going to talk with friends and see if they have any suggestions for the project.”

The Safer & Stronger Communities project is led by Telford and Wrekin Council and the Police and Crime Commissioner, John Campion and will the council contribute £2m with an additional £500k from PCC John Campion to support the project, to be spent over the next two years.

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said “The Safer and Stronger Communities Project continues to make an impact, at an individual and community level. I am glad to see that our joint investment and the partnership work with Telford & Wrekin Council is making people’s lives better and ultimately building safer communities.”

The Safer & Stronger Communities project is currently working with 12 areas and residents are invited to have their say on local issues concerning safety and also on ways to help build community groups.

The hamper contained vouchers for various council-owned activities.
