*** NEW DATES ***
Safer & Stronger Communities Events Roadshow Launched

The next Safer and Stronger Communities event will be held between 11-2pm on Saturday, March 5 at Ketley community centre and residents are invited to have their say on how they would like to see money spent in their area.

The joint initiative will see Telford & Wrekin Council contribute £2m and an additional £500k from the Police and Crime Commissioner, John Campion invested into areas across Telford over the next two years.

Cabinet Member for Stronger and Safer Communities, Councillor Paul Watling said: “These events are a chance to come and along and have your say on the things that are important to you and the community in which you live.

“Think you need more CCTV in the area? Would like to see more provision for young people? If you have any ideas like this or others then please come along and talk to us. As a cooperative council we always strive to work alongside residents and provide what’s needed for them.

“Without you feedback, we won’t have the complete picture so please do come along – I really am looking forward to meeting you and listening to your ideas – whatever age you are or however ‘out there’ you think your idea might be.

The events have led to projects such as a new boxing club to help adults overcome addiction, a gardening group to support less mobile people in their homes and reducing loneliness as well as funding to support a new youth club. Other measures such as new CCTV has helped reduce opportunities for things like fly tipping and graffiti.

West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) John Campion said: “I am committed to ensuring that the voice of the public is represented in policing, therefore events like these are extremely helpful to gather community views.

“Communities don’t have to face the fear of crime, or have their lives blighted by the actions of others – they should feel safe where they live. With this funding we will be able to deliver a number of simple measures and initiatives that will have a significant impact, and I look forward to meeting with communities to discuss these.”

Areas set to benefit from funding include Sutton Hill, Madeley and Woodside, Brookside, Stirchley & Hollinswood, (The Nedge) Wellington & College (Haygate & Arleston) St Georges & Priorslee, Wrockwardine Wood & Trench, Dawley Bank & Malinslee, Dawley & Aqueduct, Hadley & Leegomery, Oakengates & Ketley Bank, Ketley & Overdale and Donnington.

The next events are due to be held on the following dates:

  • Sambrook Centre, Stirchley – Saturday, April 2
  • Malinslee & Dawley Bank – Saturday April TBC
  • Overdale – Saturday April TBC
