David is on track for success with Saturday Cycles high street expansion
A passionate biker is on track for success after expanding his cycling repair business thanks to Telford & Wrekin Council’s Pride in Our High Street programme.
David Taylor has secured new high street premises on Market Approach, Wellington for ‘Saturday Cycles’ to wheel out his range of services.
David’s journey started during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 when he decided to channel his passion for cycling in a different direction by launching his own business on a small Wellington market stall before moving to a larger market stand.
But in just a few months as Saturday Cycles continued to grow and attract new customers, a bigger base was needed to cater for an increased demand in cycling repair services.
David has invested £5,500 from his previous market stall into the new shop and has been awarded a further £7,500 business start-up grant to help him make the move to 3A Market Approach.
The new premises is now more than double the size of the market stall and will enable him to increase his opening hours and work flexibly around his customers’ needs now he is in a more central town location.
David said: “Cycling has always been a hobby of mine and it became extremely popular during the lockdowns with a surge in bike sales and people taking it up as a hobby to explore new scenery and keep fit and healthy outdoors.
“What started out as a small business venture has grown very quickly and it soon became apparent that there just wasn’t enough room on the market stall I was on.
“I’m so grateful for the business start-up grant I’ve received through Pride in Our High Street and this really has given me a great platform to build on in Wellington.”
Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood, Commercial and Regeneration, said: “Saturday Cycles really is making a name for itself in the cycling repair world locally.
“This is a wonderful example of how a business starting out on a small market unit has now expanded to become a new addition on the high street.
“We’re delighted for David that Saturday Cycles is going from strength-to-strength.”
Haygate Ward Councillor Graham Cook said: “This is fantastic news for the Wellington high street and I’d like to wish Saturday Cycles every success on Market Approach which is a great location for this growing business.”
Park Ward Councillor John Thompson added: “It’s pleasing to see new enterprises launching in the heart of Wellington and Saturday Cycles is another business which is bringing a new energy to the town.
“It’s nice to see these new shops and local people supporting local retail and shop workers.”
