Primary Schools across the borough are celebrating National School Meals week.

Catering teams in Primary schools across the borough have been busy preparing celebrations for National School Meals Week taking place this week from 8 – 12 November 2021, it’s an opportunity for teams and schools to showcase what’s great about today’s school food.

Each school has been working hard to create their own week of celebrations all themed to get children back into the dining room this November.  One main promotion is the “School Tucker Trial” where pupils can enjoy a nutritious two course lunch each day during National School Meals Week to then be entered into a Grand Prize drawn with lots of exciting prizes to be won.

National School Meals Week is a national initiative used to raise awareness about the importance of school meals to parents and pupils, highlighting the benefits of eating a healthy and nutritious school lunch and the resulting impacts in behaviour and academic attainment in the class room.  For some pupils a school meal may be the only hot meal they have that day.

Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood, Commercial Services and Regeneration Councillor Lee Carter commented ““Nutritious meals as part of the school day contribute to improvements in a child’s concentration and performance at school, providing a great start to their overall health, growth and development. Hot meals are available as part of the daily menu and we encourage pupils to take advantage of them and National Schools Meals Week is an excellent time to do this“.

Each school is supported by LACA, the school food people, who created a package of free resources for schools to use to promote National School Meals week, that included letters, posters and banners and Telford & Wrekin Councils Let’s Dine Team, the catering teams based in schools, who along with the leadership teams in schools will be planning and leading the celebrations.

So look out for and join in with the National School Meal Week celebrations in your school.
