Council continues to support borough businesses
Telford & Wrekin Council is continuing at full speed to support businesses hit by the coronavirus pandemic, with further business support grants to be available as a result of the new national lockdown.
Following the government’s announcement for another national lockdown, the Council is currently awaiting further guidance from the government on the business grant schemes that will be made available.
From the information provided so far by the Government, the following grants will be made available:
- Lockdown grant payments:
Closed businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors will receive a one-off grant of:
- £4,000 for businesses with a rateable value of £15,000 or under
- £6,000 for businesses with a rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000
- £9,000 for businesses with a rateable value of over £51,000
The following support will also be available to these businesses:
- Local restrictions support grant payments:
Businesses which have been forced to close due to national restrictions will receive payment every 14 days of:
- £667 for businesses with a rateable value of £15,000 or under
- £1,000 for businesses with a rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000
- £1,500 for businesses with a rateable value of over £51,000
- Additional Restrictions Grant, which will provide support to businesses which have suffered a significant loss in income due to Covid-19 and have not qualified for a different grant:
- Any business ratepayer which has not received a business support grant
- Self-employed and limited companies with 5 FTE employees or less
The application process will be open from Monday 11 January 2021, and those who have already received a grant under this scheme will be contacted shortly regarding an additional payment.
Borough businesses that have received a Local Restriction Support Grant since November 2020 don’t need to re-apply for any new grants, as automatic grant payments will be made to them. The Council’s Revenues Team will be getting in touch with each of these businesses shortly.
Full details about these grants and application process will be published on the Council’s website as soon as the Government issues further guidance.
The Council will work to process any applications to these grants as soon as they come in, to ensure this essential support to qualifying businesses is paid out as quickly as possible.
So far during the pandemic, the Council has been one of the quickest in the country to distribute Government grants to qualifying businesses.
Borough businesses who need support and advice can contact the Council’s dedicated Business Support team on 01952 567589 (9am—5pm, Mon-Fri) or by completing this online form.
Cllr Rae Evans, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Finance and Governance said:
“Another lockdown, another significant impact to borough businesses – that have been already so hard hit by the pandemic.
“I would like to reassure all businesses that our Council will continue to do everything in our power to support them.
“Our Revenues Team will be working round the clock to process grant applications as soon as they start coming in (after the Government’s full guidance is published).
“Our dedicated Business Support line will continue to be available to any borough business who needs help, advice or guidance to apply for grants (at 01952 567589 - 9am—5pm, Mon-Fri or using this online form).
“We recognise many businesses will still be struggling financially, even this support might not be enough – we will continue to urge the government to provide enhanced support, it’s more important than ever now as previous restrictions and lockdowns have already left many borough businesses critically affected.”
