The Council will work to process any applications to these grants as soon as they come in, to ensure this essential support to qualifying businesses is paid out as quickly as possible.

In the first lockdown, the Council has been one of the quickest in the country to distribute Government grants to qualifying businesses.

Borough businesses forced to remain closed after 2 December due to the Tier 2 restrictions in the borough (such as ‘wet’ pubs) will receive a Local Restrictions Support Grant, based on their rateable value and an additional £1,000 one-off support payment for the Christmas period

Borough businesses in hospitality, accommodation and leisure (that have been able to open but continue to be severely affected by the coronavirus restrictions) will receive a Local Restrictions Support grant, based on their rateable value.

In the coming days, the Council will be getting in touch with ‘wet’ pubs and businesses in the hospitality, accommodation and leisure sectors to make an automatic grant payment to them – there is no need for these businesses to make an application.

Borough businesses who need support and advice can contact the Council’s dedicated Business Support team on 01952 567589 (9am—5pm, Mon-Fri) or by completing this online form.

In the second 4-week lockdown, the Council awarded a total of £1.7m to 1,240 borough businesses who have been forced to close and/or are struggling financially.

Cabinet Member for Finance and Governance, Rae Evans said:

“We are again going the extra mile to support borough businesses as they are continuing to face serious financial challenges due to the pandemic and Tier 2 restrictions.

“If your businesses is struggling and you haven’t applied for a grant since the second lockdown started, please do apply now on

“We are particularly encouraging self-employed and limited companies (with one employee) that weren’t eligible for grants before, to submit their applications now.

“As throughout this year, our Business Support team continues to provide advice depending on your circumstances and guide you through the grant applications process – get in touch using this online form or by calling 01952 567589 (9am—5pm, Mon-Fri).

“I also want to ask people to ‘shop local’ within the borough, particularly now ahead of Christmas - we must recognise the efforts of our businesses who have sacrificed so much during the lockdowns and are working hard to create safe environments for people to work and shop in.”
