Operation Shield under way

Telford & Wrekin Council have been preparing over the last few days for Operation Shield.

Operation Shield is the Government scheme to get food parcels and other necessities to help the most vulnerable in the community, who are isolating at home with no friends, family or neighbours to support them.

The first delivery of supplies are expected to arrive on Friday 27 March at Telford and Wrekin’s hub which has been set up specifically to respond to Operation Shield.
Council staff and volunteers will be undertaking duties such as packaging up items and distributing these into the community.

Parcels will only go to people in the borough who are included on the Government’s list of 1.5 million vulnerable people. These are the people who were sent letters earlier this week and told to self-isolate.

No collections are allowed from the hub however vulnerable people who are in need of support can call the council’s Community Support Line on 01952 382030 or fill in the online form

Council leader Shaun Davies said; “It is fundamental that in the current situation people stay home to save lives. We know there are people close to us that need that extra help and support and we want them to know we are there for them. Our teams will be working hard over the coming days to get the first deliveries out to the most vulnerable people in our borough who are affected by the impacts of Coronavirus.”
