Borough to get two more Parish Environmental Teams

Two more Parish Environmental Teams have been created in Telford and Wrekin as part of the Pride In Your Community programme to keep streets and open spaces around the borough in good condition.

Borough to get two more Parish Environmental Teams

Parish Environmental Teams are a partnership arrangement between Telford & Wrekin Council and individual parish or town councils to provide enhanced maintenance work in a local area beyond what the council already provides.

Both Wellington Town Council and Dawley Hamlets Parish Council have now agreed to form a partnership with Telford & Wrekin Council, bringing the total of PETs in the borough to 11.

This means that 120,500 people (71 per cent of the borough) in Telford and Wrekin are now served by a Parish Environmental Team.

Councillor Shaun Davies, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “Parish Environmental Teams are a great example of how Telford and Wrekin and its partners come together and work co-operatively to find new solutions for public services in the borough.

“I am pleased that Wellington and Dawley Hamlets have both agreed to sign up to have a PET, it means creation of more jobs including apprenticeships and that helps us tackle youth unemployment.”

Phil Morris-Jones, mayor of Wellington, said: “I am delighted that Wellington Town Council has agreed to a partnership (PET) with Telford & Wrekin Council to provide enhanced cleaning and maintenance to our streets and public areas.”

Councillor Andy Burford, Chair of Dawley Hamlets Parish Council, said: “The Council is pleased to be making its contribution to the maintenance of the area during these very difficult financial times.

“We need to act in partnership with both the Borough Council and local residents to preserve essential services and the PET is an important example of this approach.”

PETs cover enhanced litter picking, leaf fall clearance, repairs to street furniture, conservation and improvements to landscaped areas, mowing, weeding, planting and cleaning.

As well as Wellington Town Council and Dawley Hamlets Parish Council, Telford & Wrekin Council has partnerships with the following councils to run Parish Environmental Teams:
