Candidates announced for two borough by-elections

Telford & Wrekin Council has today announced the candidates for the by-elections in two borough wards later this month.

The two wards are Ironbridge Gorge – which needs to be filled following the sad death of Labour Councillor Dave Davies – and Newport West following the resignation of Conservative Councillor Adam Stanton, who has work commitments.

The candidates for the Ironbridge Gorge ward are Elizabeth Mollett, for the Conservative Party, Richard Soame, for UKIP, and Ken Stringer, for the Labour Party.

The candidates for the Newport West ward are Warwick McKenzie, for UKIP, Phil Norton, for the Labour Party, Rodney Pitt, for the Conservative Party, and Peter Scott, Independent.

The last date for registration for residents in those wards who are not currently on the electoral register but who want to vote is Tuesday 14 October. Anyone who isn’t already registered, can register here.

The deadline for new applications for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 15 October. Ballot papers will go out to postal voters shortly after this.

Proxy vote applications need to be received by 5pm on Wednesday 22 October and the by-elections will take place on Thursday 30 October, with polling stations open from 7am to 10pm.
