Telford panto delights biggest ever audience

Telford & Wrekin Council has announced a record breaking panto season at Oakengates Theatre @ The Place with its spectacular production of Beauty and the Beast.

Telford panto delights biggest ever audience

Almost 20,000 people came through the theatre’s doors over Christmas and New Year to enjoy the dazzling festive experience, which was sponsored by Trio Furnishings in Ketley.

Beauty and the Beast proved a popular choice with families and groups of all ages and for the first time the run of 47 panto shows included a relaxed performance specially designed for people with an Autism Spectrum Condition, sensory and communication disorder or a learning disability.

More than 600 panto fans looking for a traditional Christmas treat used Telford Loyalty Cards (TLC) to secure discounted tickets for two performances on 14 December and 2 January.

Tickets have already gone on sale for next winter’s production of fairytale favourite Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at Oakengates Theatre, which will run from 8 December 2015 until 3 January 2016 and promises to be a magical experience for all.

Councillor Liz Clare, cabinet member for Leisure Services and Culture, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the huge success of Beauty and the Beast and would like to thank our sponsors Trio Furnishings, the cast, our team at Oakengates and of course everyone who came along and supported their local theatre.

“We had fantastic feedback from our audiences and panto fans are already buying tickets for the most popular Christmas 2015 dates so we would encourage people to take a look on the website and book early to guarantee the best seats for next Christmas.”

Telford Loyalty Card (TLC) holders will once again be able to purchase tickets at the special discounted price of £10 for two performances at 1pm on Sunday 13 December 2015 and 5.30pm on Sunday 3 January 2016, with rear tier tickets still available at just £9.50.

Following the positive response to this year’s relaxed performance of Beauty and the Beast, which made the panto accessible to people who would not normally visit the theatre, a relaxed performance of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has been scheduled for 1pm on Sunday 3 January 2016.

Tickets are priced at £9.50 - £17.50, with special discounts for families, groups and TLC holders. Tickets are available from, by calling the ticket office on 01952 382382 or in person at Southwater One and the theatre.
