Get Active with a jam-packed programme of free summer activities
A jam-packed schedule of FREE activities for the summer holidays is about to be launched by Great Dawley Town Council as part of the Let’s Get Telford Active campaign.
Sessions starting next week at Dawley Park include tennis, crown green bowls and outdoor gym sessions, dance taster sessions at the Deighton Dance studio, cricket at both Doseley Road Playing Field and St Leonard’s Field in Malinslee and bike ability sessions both at Dawley Church of England School and Old Park Primary School.
Specialist coaches will be on hand to help beginners or coach those who are more experienced. The programme includes something for all ages and will hopefully encourage a long term love for being active.
Councillor Andy Burford, Cabinet Member for health and social care said: “Dawley is going to be buzzing this summer. There is so much going on and something to suit almost everyone.
“The Let’s Get Telford Active campaign is about getting people to be active together, it’s more fun, people can support and encourage each other while creating fun memories and building a healthy lifestyle.”
Councillor, Shaun Davies, Chair of Great Dawley Town Council and leader of Telford & Wrekin Council said: “Great Dawley Town Council would like to thank all those organisations who have supported this programme.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for everyone to have a go at free activities with experienced coaches to support people. Hopefully this will lead to people finding something they love doing and can carry on with after the summer. It’s just one of the many ways we’re supporting people to live healthier and more active lifestyles.”
The free sessions have been made possible through a £4,000 grant from Telford & Wrekin Council as part of the Telford Get Active programme, aimed at providing a fun and friendly way for people to develop a love for activity if they are out of practice – or even for people to get active for the first time.
Match funding has also been provided with £500 from Great Dawley Town Council and £500 from the Friends of Dawley Park. All the sessions are free, but registration is required.
