Telford's Theatre helps re-home local dogs this Easter

There’s No Place Like The Place for Toto-lly Terrific Entertainment This Easter

Following a record-breaking run of Cinderella last Christmas, James Shone Productions and The Place have teamed up again to bring The Wizard of Oz to Telford this Easter, staring children’s TV star Barney Harwood as Scarecrow and Emmerdale’s Sapphire Elia as Dorothy.

Joining the human stars on the Oakengates stage over the course of the weekend will be two special guest stars, Edna and Frenchie from local dog rescue centre, Hillbrae, taking the part of Dorothy’s loyal and loveable canine companion, Toto.

The two French Bulldogs both arrived at Hillbrae, which is based in Cold Hatton, as rescue dogs and became such firm favourites with the staff that they both became pets of owner Marty Burrell.

The best known Toto was the sidekick of Judy Garland in the legendary 1939 film version of L Frank Baum’s fantasy novel played by a Cairn Terrier named Terry who appeared in 16 other films becoming one of the bets loved canine movie stars of all time.

Unfortunately not all dogs are as lucky as Terry, Frenchie and Edna and on the run up to The Wizard of Oz, which rather fittingly follows Dorothy’s quest to get back to her family in Kansas, The Place will asking the people of Telford for their help in finding new homes for 4 Hillbrae dogs via Facebook.

Debbie King, Manager of Oakengates Theatre @ The Place said “I’m happy that Telford’s theatre can support the work of Hillbrae.

We are delighted to be working with Hillbrae Rescue Kennels to raise awareness of the excellent work the kennels do finding loving and forever homes for thousands of dogs each year”

Frenchie and Edna will make their stage debuts on Friday 19 April and Saturday 20 April as James Shone Productions make a second visit to The Place in four months and look like they will once again sell out the theatre with their unique high-energy brand of family entertainment, having already had to add an extra Friday show to meet demand.

With recent shows by children’s theatre company Oddsocks, a packed house for The Sooty Show in Spring and the ever popular Aliens Love Underpants and The Tiger Who Came To Tea scheduled for the coming months there’s no place like The Place for family entertainment in Telford.
