Interactive learning through 'Learn Live'
Secondary schools in Telford are invited to join a live interactive broadcast with the Telford Footbridge project team on Monday, 11 February between 10-11.30am.
Footbridge contractor Balfour Beatty and Telford & Wrekin Council will jointly host a ‘Learn Live UK’ event.
The interactive event will allow pupils to go behind the scenes at the complex engineering project, ask questions and have live conversations with engineers involved with the project.
The broadcast is aimed at students aged 14-18, will last for around 30 minutes.
The event supports work the council is doing around Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics subjects (STEM), inspiring students to take up a career in these fields.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, cabinet member for Employment, Education & Lifelong Learning said: “This is an opportunity that schools should not miss. It’s completely free, bringing real engineer experiences into the classroom through live broadcasting.
“It’s a chance for two-way interaction with pupils and STEM industry professionals around a local project and we hope as many pupils in Telford & Wrekin take part in this exciting opportunity as possible.”
The panel of experts includes Nadeera Khan and Alex Brett, trainee quantity surveyors with Balfour Beatty based on the Telford footbridge replacement project.
Civil engineer Patrick Ridout Tavares is also part of the team and has worked on a variety of infrastructure projects including:
•Midland Metro Extension (Existing tram network extension, Birmingham)
•Golden Square (Public Realm works in Birmingham Jewellery Quarter),
•The M1 Bridge to Growth (Road Bridge crossing M1 motorway, Leicester)
•Sutton New Hall Cemetery Extension (Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham)
•Telford Footbridge (Construction of two new footbridges, Telford).
To take part, participants simply need to log into the Learn Live event via a laptop or internet enabled screen.
