Motorists thanked for patience in advance of Armistice Day closures
Sunday 11 November will see a number of road closures across Telford and Wrekin to allow for Remembrance and Armistice Day parades.
Big turn outs are expected at the borough’s war memorials as residents mark 100 years since the cessation of hostilities in World War One.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys on Sunday morning. All the parades will have a rolling road closure in place and roads will be re-opened by marshalls once the parade has passed.
Roads affected are as follows:
Dawley – between 10.15-10.30am on Doseley Road, George Street and High Street and between 11.50am-12 noon on High Street, Burton Street and Station Road.
Donnington – between 10.30am and 11.15am along Wrekin Drive and Winifred’s Drive.
Hadley – 10.30am-12.30pm along High Street, Waterloo Road, Crescent Road and Manse Road.
Madeley – 10.15-11.30am from The Woodside centre along Park Lane, Mound Way, Parkway, up The Maddocks and ending at Russell Road.
Newport – between 10.10am and 1pm on Audley Avenue, Audley Road, Upper Bar and the High Street.
Oakengates – between 10.30am and 11am from Oxford Street along to Market Street and from the Salvation Army to Hartshill Park.
Wellington – from 10.25am along New Street, Market Square and Church Street. Queen Street will also be closed.
Councillor Hilda Rhodes, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Transport, said: “Sunday will be a very poignant day as Telford and Wrekin pays tribute to the many men and women from the borough who sacrificed themselves in combat.
“I would like to thank all road users in advance for their patience while the parades take place.”
