Ever Thought of Becoming a Foster Carer? Come to an Information Event to Find Out More
Ordinary People Doing an Extraordinary Job – residents are being encouraged to come along and learn more about fostering for Telford & Wrekin Council at an information event taking place at Crudgington Primary School, Monday 12 March at 6pm.
Telford needs more foster carers - ordinary local people who can offer a safe and secure home to a child when they need it most. Along with people new to fostering, carers working for private agencies are being encouraged to contact the Council, who can offer full training, support and competitive fees and allowances.
The information event provides an opportunity to learn more, to chat with existing foster carers about what it's really like to foster and to speak to friendly staff who can answer any questions people may have.
Telford & Wrekin Council welcomes people from a diverse range of backgrounds, ages and experiences. Potential carers don't need to be a home owner, or married - single people or same sex couples can also become foster carers. As long as people have a spare bedroom that is comfy and warm, patience, understanding and a sense of humour.
All new carers receive full training, ongoing support and advice and opportunities to meet other foster carers regularly and hear about the rewards and challenges fostering offers. Foster carers also receive a fee and allowance for each child they foster.
Councillor Paul Watling, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Children’s & Adults Early Help & Support, said: "I'd like to encourage anyone who thinks they could help support our young people to come along to our event, where they're assured of a warm welcome from our supportive staff and our experienced foster carers.
"There are different types of caring opportunities available, varying from short-term respite and emergency care to long-term fostering of a child until they reach adulthood. Please come along to Crudgington Primary School at 6pm to find out more, have a chat and to have your questions answered."
