Weather update, 2 March 2018, 15:00pm
The so called Beast from the East has arrived in Telford and Wrekin. Here is everything you need to know.
We are continuing to work hard to keep Telford and Wrekin moving, and keep you informed. We have tried to pull everything in this update. You can help people stay in the know by sharing this update.
Weather forecast - We are expecting some further snowfall between 3pm-9pm today. It could be up to 10 centimetres with the heaviest snow falling between 4pm & 8pm. There will still be very windy conditions so more snow drifts are a possibility.
Gritting - Our gritting teams have been out throughout the night doing a great job of clearing our roads. They will be out again 4pm to help keep the traffic moving and return to depot for refill around 6pm and straight back out again. We will then be monitoring conditions throughout the night and grit as and when required. As always stay safe and help others where you can. If you see them give them a wave as they are working very hard at the moment. You can see our gritting routes on our website.
Snow drifts are causing issues in some areas so take extra care and leave plenty of time for your journey.
Recycling and rubbish collections - Crews are out collecting as normal and if they can't access your street they will return as soon as they can so leave your bin out in a safe place until it has been emptied.
If you were due to have your green bin emptied and it hasn’t been, please take it back in, and put it out on your next scheduled collection date. Household Recycling Centres at Hortonwood 50 and Halesfield 1 are open as usual.
School closures – It’s a school’s decision if they close, not ours. If you have any questions about a school closure please contact your school direct. Headteachers can update us if their school is closed or not and this is displayed on our school closures.
Grit bins – we are working with our Snow Wardens to clear as many paths as we can. There are a number of grit bins located across the borough for communities to use if conditions are difficult. Our crews have been out checking them and they are well stocked at the moment. Information about where grit bins are located and how to request a grit bin is available on our website.
