Council makes it as easy as 1-2-3 for residents to save money
Telford & Wrekin Council has 3 very simple ways to help people in the borough save.
1. Switch Telford is the Council’s energy price comparison and switching website that helps residents save money on energy bills by switching supplier. Since its launch this spring, more than 200 people have switched, with an average saving of over £200 a year and biggest savings of over £600 a year.
Switch Telford partners with a leading energy switching provider, which is Ofgem accredited. Switch Telford is free to use, lists best possible deals on market in real time and provides tailored advice on the cheapest tariff for individual households. It takes as little as 5 minutes to switch your supplier, it’s really that simple.
For every switch made through switch.telford.gov.uk, the Council receives a commission. This helps to generate money that goes back into supporting and sustaining council services in the borough, such as those for vulnerable old people and children.

2. The Telford Loyalty Card (TLC) helps residents save money, as it offers discounts at hundreds of borough businesses. The free TLC card is expanding with even more discount offers, helping you to save at shops, services and Council facilities in the borough.

3. LEAP (Local Energy Advice Programme) is a new, completely free of charge service that helps eligible borough households to save money and keep their homes warm and cosy.
Residents may be eligible for the scheme if they have one of the following: a low income, a long term illness or disability or if they receive Housing Benefit or an income or disability related benefit.
A LEAP Home Advisor will do a home visit to assess what help can be provided. As well as providing advice on energy efficiency they can also implement some measures like energy-saving LED bulbs, draught-proofing of doors, cylinder jackets.

Councillor Lee Carter, Cabinet member for Finance, Commercial Services & Economic Development said:
"The cost of living is increasing significantly against a backdrop of below inflation wage increases, so we want to help our residents wherever we can. This includes trying to get the best value energy supply deals and offering discounts in local shops, services and Council facilities. We’re always looking at new initiatives to help residents.”
To encourage as many people as possible to take-up these 3 offers, “Cash Challenge” events will be organised in several locations of the borough.
The first event takes place in Southwater One Building on Wednesday, 15 November, between 10:00am and 2pm. Council representatives will be there to advise people on how they are able to save money with Switch Telford, TLC and LEAP offer schemes.
