Drive to recruit more foster carers
Telford & Wrekin Council is holding an event for people who are interested in fostering on Wednesday 18 October. The information evening starts at 5pm and will be at The Guildhall, 1 High Street, Newport.
If people are considering becoming foster carers, they can come along to find out more about this rewarding role. There will be an opportunity to find out about the different sorts of fostering available, meet existing foster carers and find out about the support and training available through the council.
By attending an event no commitment is being made, but gives people the opportunity to find out more and talk to people already fostering about their own experiences.
Councillor Paul Watling, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Children’s & Adults Early Help & Support, said: “Our team of foster carers come from all walks of life and all age groups. They include single men and women and also families and empty nesters who've seen their children grow up and move on.
"While some of the demands of fostering are similar to those of being a parent, all our new carers receive comprehensive training and support to be able to deal with whatever challenges they may face whilst fostering a child.
“Many people want to foster local children but don’t think they have the right skills. Don’t rule yourself out from enquiring – if you have a spare room and the time and patience to care for a child come along to the information event or get in touch with the team for more information and to find out more about it.”
