Public event to mark Donnington Community Hub handover
Telford and Wrekin’s latest example of close working with the community sees the Donnington Partnership take over the management of the Donnington Lifelong Learning Centre.
Now called the Donnington Community Hub, it is hosting a community business event this Friday (OCT 6) from 10am to 2pm.
Local people, businesses and organisations are invited to come along and see what the centre has to offer. The event will also feature seed planting and free soup and a roll for everyone who attends.
The Donnington Community Hub also has a community café which serves hot meals, including a delivery service for those not able to get out of the house.
There is also three rooms available to hire for parties, meetings and events including one with a computer suite.
Jean Gulliver, the chair of Donnington Partnership, said: “We are striving to provide the best possible facility to serve the community of Donnington and the surrounding area and this weekend’s event is aimed at showcasing the facilities available.
“We are looking forward to a really positive day which will include meeting lots of new friends of the centre.
“We are always on the look out for volunteers to help out with the general running of the centre and also to help organize family events for the whole community.”
Councillor Rae Evans, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Partnerships, said: “The Donnington Community Hub is a fantastic example of how we have worked closely with our community over the past couple of years.
“It is great to see the centre opening its doors to the wider community to highlight the facilities that it has available and I am sure Friday will be a fantastic day.”
The Community Hub also has a number of activities that take place across the week with regular training courses available from Telford Job Box and the community learning team.
There is also a Job Junction every Wednesday from 9.30-11am, at which people can get advice on looking for and applying for jobs.
