Look Before You Book this Valentine’s Day
If you’re planning that special Valentine’s date, Telford & Wrekin Council would like to remind you to ‘look before you book.’
Planning the perfect Valentine’s date is stressful enough. The last thing you want on your mind before that special date is whether the place you choose is hygienic or not. There’s nothing romantic about food poisoning.
The truth is, you can’t tell a restaurant’s hygiene standards by how clean and tidy their staff look or by how romantic the ambience is. But at least the Council’s Food Hygiene Rating Scheme can take one worry off your mind.
Our food hygiene inspectors rate food businesses on their hygiene standards. The rating ranges from 0 (zero) which means ‘urgent improvement necessary’ to a top rating of 5 which is ‘very good’.
The good news, in Telford and Wrekin, 81% of food businesses in the borough get a score of 3 or above.
It’s really simple to check. Just go online here or if you’re out and about look for the green and black sticker.

Cllr Hilda Rhodes - Cabinet Member for Public Protection, Safety & Enforcement said: “When planning your special meal out, make sure you check the hygiene ratings and choose a restaurant that takes food hygiene seriously. This is also an important time for local food businesses as a good food hygiene rating is something to be proud of. It matters to customers so we are encouraging all businesses in the borough to display their rating.”
