Mayor – Join me, shed some Lbs and gain some ££s for charity
Telford & Wrekin's Mayor is urging people to get behind her new year fund-raising idea to lose weight and help raise cash for her chosen charities.
Cllr Rae Evans will kick off her £s For Lbs Challenge tomorrow and is asking as many people as possible to join her or sponsor her or other participants.
Rae will be leading from the waist as she starts on her own fund-raising slim until the end of April just before her year in office comes to an end.
She is urging anyone to join her by making their £s for Lbs pledge and downloading a sponsorship from www.telford.gov.uk/mayorschallenge
Rae said : “I wanted a simple way that people could do something that’s both good for them and good for the charities that I am supporting in my term as Mayor.
“So go and download a form and get involved however you want – as sponsor or as a slimmer or both!
“The new year’s a time when many people are making efforts to shed a few pounds and I hope they can put their dedication to help a very good cause. I hope that lots of my fellow councillors will be joining me.”
Rae will give regular updates on her progress on Twitter @TandWMayor and using #£sforLbs during the challenge to the end of April, just before her role as mayor comes to an end.
The Council’s Healthy Lifestyles team are also offering a free health check for anyone wanting to take part in the challenge. Just ring 01952 382582 to book an appointment or pop in and see them at Southwater One in Telford Town Centre.
Monies raised in the challenge will go directly to the Mayor’s chosen charities - West Mercia Women’s Aid, Refuge and other local domestic abuse support services.
