Telford & Wrekin Council has welcomed the news that the preferred route for the new road to link the M54 to the M6 could be announced soon.
As long as five years ago, the council campaigned for the link to be built to improve transport links and accessibility to Telford and Wrekin and the rest of the county.
Today’s (Fri 18 Nov) statement by the Department for Transport – which outlines the three options available for the new link – says that a preferred route will be indicated shortly followed by a detailed design and more consultation.
Telford & Wrekin Council leader Councillor Shauin Davies said: “We made this a priority to campaign on back in 2011 because the increased accessibility will help create new jobs as well as protecting those already there by reducing transport costs and improving access.
“I am therefore delighted at the news that the Department for Transport are very close to making an announcement on their preferred route for the new link road.”
