Council and MP meet on fight for PRH
The Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council has met with Telford MP Lucy Allan and asked for her support and to work together to keep services at the Princess Royal Hospital.
Cllr Shaun Davies and Ms Allan met yesterday in Telford town centre to agree their approach.
This comes after it was revealed earlier this week that NHS bosses plan to recommend moving the £28 million Womens & Children’s Unit, which opened only two years ago, and A&E services from the PRH to Shrewsbury.
Cllr Davies has asked for Ms Allan’s help by:
• Arranging an urgent meeting with Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt
• Writing a joint letter with the Council to the Health Secretary
• Supporting the Council’s cross party motion that will be discussed next week at an Emergency Meeting
• Supporting the Council’s www.prh4me.co.uk campaign
Cllr Davies said; “We had a very productive discussion about the threat to key services at the PRH.
“I have asked Lucy to help us on these very specific things - I look forward to working closely together in our fight for services at PRH.
“This is not and have never has been a Telford v Shrewsbury debate. We have from the beginning and still now support the need for two A&Es in both hospitals. We again urge the NHS to reconsider their position and plans.”
The meeting was arranged after Cllr Davies wrote this week to both MPs asking for their help to fight the NHS plans to remove services from the PRH.
