Pool closure as new floor installed
The swimming pool at Abraham Darby Sports & Leisure Centre is set to close for a number of weeks from the end of October as a new pool floor is being installed to tackle the issues that have been ongoing since the pool first opened.
The pool at Abraham Darby has experienced a number of unplanned closures since it opened to allow the contractor to undertake remedial works to deal with issues occurring with the pool floor.
Now to tackle those issues once and for all the pool will close for a period of seven weeks from Monday 31 October in order for the current pool floor to be completely replaced to offer customers a much improved and more reliable service.
All other facilities at the Sports & Leisure Centre will remain open throughout this period.
The pool is due to reopen on Monday 19 December.
Staff are currently looking at options to accommodate swimming lessons from Abraham Darby to other pools in the borough, and will be in contact with everyone affected over the next few weeks to provide alternatives for consideration.
Councillor Richard Overton, cabinet member for Housing, Leisure and Health, said: “The pool at Abraham Darby has experienced a number of closures connected with the floor since the new Sports & Leisure Centre opened.
“These unplanned closures are unacceptable over the long term and do not provide our customers with a reliable, trustworthy service.
“Therefore we are taking the decision to close the pool for a period of up to seven weeks in order to replace the floor and ensure that we put a stop to the ongoing issues that have been experienced.
“We are sorry for the short term inconvenience and disruption that this may cause for our customers but the result will be a better quality floor that negates the need for further closures giving pool users a far more reliable and much improved service.”
