Lucky resident could scoop £5,000 in national council tax campaign
One lucky borough resident could scoop £5,000 after Telford & Wrekin Council signed up to a national council tax campaign.
It has been launched by Bacs Payment Schemes Ltd, the not for profit organisation behind direct debit in the UK who are providing the prize money.
Telford and Wrekin residents must register to pay their council tax bill by direct debit before 5pm on 30 September 2016 to be in with a chance of winning the £5,000 prize.
They can do this by signing up at www.telford.gov.uk/counciltaxdirectdebit or calling 01952 383838.
Residents who already pay their council tax by direct debit will automatically be entered into the prize draw.
Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council;s cabinet member for Finance, Partnerships and Commercial Services, said: “Direct Debit is a simple, safe and secure means of payment which is also more convenient for residents than other payment methods.
“It is also a much cheaper way for us to process payments and the money we save can be used for the benefit of local residents.
“Thanks to the prize on offer from Bacs, there is an attractive incentive for residents to switch payment methods and we’d love to see someone from Telford and Wrekin win the £5,000.”
Dawneth Perry, Bacs’ local authority specialist, said: “We are pleased to support all of the organisations taking part in this year’s national campaign – it is the first time we’ve brought together local authorities from across the country.
“We’ve run a London-specific campaign since 2010 and the results over this period have shown just how effective these initiatives can be.
“In fact, over the last six years, our council tax campaigns have delivered in the region of £2.5m in savings for those participating and we’re now hoping that we can drive cost efficiencies for local authorities across the country.”
