Telford and Wrekin to take part in census test
A sample of Telford and Wrekin residents are to be asked about their attitude to completing the 2021 Census online.
Telford and Wrekin has been selected to take part in the test by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) because the area has a good demographic mix.
The small scale test will run until Wednesday 27 July and is in two phases.
The first phase will see letters being sent out to 11,000 addresses in the area including households, hotels, guest houses, bed and breakfasts and care homes. The letters will ask householders to go online and answer a questionnaire.
Follow up visits will be made by field staff to non-responding households and also managers of selected hotels and care homes to obtain valuable information on how best to carry out a census of those establishments.
The second phase will involve an address check to verify address details held on the ONS address register.
Census field staff will be in the area collecting this information and if details are unclear, they may knock on doors to clarify the situation with the householder.
Phase One began on Friday. All census field staff will have ONS identification that they will show householders.
