Pupils at Hollinswood Primary School had a busy day on Friday (24 JUN) as they made prehistoric flowers and bones that will be used during the parade at the spectacular Carnival of Giants which takes place in just over two weeks time.
The whole school got involved to make the items that will be carried along the parade route; just one of the highlights of Carnival of Giants on Saturday 16 July.
Many of those involved in making the prehistoric items will also be taking part in the parade featuring 500 people and much more.
Taking place at 2pm the parade will begin outside Southwater One and make its way towards Telford Ice Rink before heading past Closer to the Edge towards the QEII Fields in Trust Arena where the parade will do a lap of the Arena.
Close Act will be leading the parade with their Sauruses; eye-catching, spectacular giant prehistoric creatures that will immediately underline the size and scale of what is about to come.
Also part of the parade are the group known as the Best Street Band Ever, Skiband, who will be bringing the parade to life with their brilliant musical style that embraces the theme of the day…GIANT!
Add to that the Dino Whisperers from Festive Road that navigate time on the most wonderful bespoke bicycle-like contraptions and the stage is set for a parade like no other.
And don’t forget this is all interspersed with dance groups and community groups, including many of those who have helped to make the wonderful bones and flowers that will be carried throughout, making this 500 person strong parade one not to be missed.
Look out for the dinosaur feet that will mark out the route of the parade on the day and plan a good viewing spot. Or for the best viewing points head to the banks of the Arena and watch as the giant parade completes a full lap.
Councillor Liz Clare, cabinet member for Culture, Sport, Parks and Green Spaces, said; “I’m already impressed by the scale of the event that is due to take place in just a few short weeks in the borough. The anticipation is building and there is a real buzz in the air for Carnival of Giants.
“The parade sounds like it is going to be electric and will set the imaginations of every child, and no doubt the adults too, alight.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has been involved in the making of the items for the parade and all those who are due to take part on the day, these events wouldn’t be able to happen without the support of the wonderful community we have here in Telford and Wrekin.”
Carnival of Giants is a free event to attend, taking place on Saturday 16 July from 11am-4pm, with the parade at 2pm. The day includes activities, sports, a market, mini-fair, carnival games and much more.
