Telford & Wrekin Council’s Annual General Meeting has elected Councillor Shaun Davies as leader.

“Telford & Wrekin Council has achieved so much in the past five years, in spite of the most challenging climate ever due to cuts in Government grant.
“I wish that I could offer some reassurance as to our financial position. I can however give my absolute commitment to do everything I can to work for the good of our borough and the people we serve. Together, we will do everything we can to secure income for this Council to help limit cuts to key services while making a very forceful case to Government over our funding.
“I look forward to continuing to work to make our borough an even better place and one of which I know we are all very proud.
“My priorities for the next 12 months include working to secure hospital services at the Princess Royal Hospital for the future and ensuring fairer Government funding for the borough. By the Government’s own figures Telford & Wrekin Council’s settlement is already almost £12m per year below average.
“I want to ensure that we get the money we are entitled to. I am also keen that we looking for additional funding that can help to protect many vital Council services from even deeper cuts.”
