New sign language interpretation service
Telford & Wrekin Council has announced a change of sign language interpretation company it uses.
The change comes after an open tender process, held in March. Cuts of £30m to the Council’s budget over the next two years mean that the Council needs to ensure that services represent the best value possible.
Deaf Direct has been awarded the contract and it was felt they offered the best overall value combination of service and price.
Fully qualified interpreters who are registered with the NRCPD were required because it is important that everyone has confidence in the interpreter.
Companies were also asked to explain how they could provide interpreters in an emergency.
Anyone who requires an interpreter for an appointment with any Council service should advise this when booking an appointment.
If you don’t know what service you need, you can e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. Don’t forget to let us know that you need an interpreter for the appointment.
The Council understands that changes can be worrying but wanted to make sure that anyone who uses our sign language interpretation service understands that this why this change has been made.
