Record breaking audience sees Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
This year’s panto at Oakengates Theatre, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, has beaten box office records.
More than 21,000 people came through the theatre’s doors over Christmas and New Year to enjoy the dazzling festive experience, which was sponsored by Shukers. This figure is up by almost 2,000 on last year’s audience figures.
The pantomime was performed 46 times over the festive period, including two disability friendly performances of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which opened up the experience to even more people.
A BSL (British Sign Language) interpreter allowed the hard of hearing to appreciate the all important punch lines and fun that every panto has to offer at one performance.
A special relaxed performance of the panto was specially designed to welcome families and groups who would benefit from a more relaxed environment, including people with an Autism Spectrum Condition, sensory and communication disorders, or a learning disability.
More than 700 panto fans looking for a traditional Christmas treat used their Telford Loyalty Cards (TLC) to secure discounted tickets for the two performances on 13 December and 3 January.
Councillor Liz Clare, cabinet member for Leisure Services and Culture, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the huge success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and would like to thank our sponsors Shukers, the cast, our team at Oakengates and of course everyone who came along and supported their local theatre.
“We have had fantastic feedback from our audiences and look forward to welcoming them back next pant season.
“We’ll be announcing this year’s panto very soon and I’d urge everyone who wants to ensure they get their tickets to keep checking the theatre’s website and social media pages for the latest news.”
Tony Macera, dealer principal at Shukers in Telford, said: “We’re really pleased to have sponsored this year’s hugely successful panto, it’s been a great experience.
“It was a great way to promote our business and SsangYong to Telford, the surrounding areas and to get into the festive spirit as we welcomed the cast to our showroom.”
This year’s panto will be announced very soon on the theatre’s website, www.theplacetelford.com, and social media pages.
